Classical Portrait Painting Workshop in Beechwood, OH
October 16–18, 2016
I am leading a three-day oil portrait workshop this October at The Art Studio in Beechwood, Ohio. All levels of experience are welcome!
Sun.-Tues. October 16-18th, 2016
$395.+ $50. model fee
9am - 4pm
To register, please email Susan Cone Porges: firstname.lastname@example.org
Working from a live model, students will learn classical methods of painting oil portraits on canvas. Light and an understanding of three-dimensional form will be our tools for conveying a lifelike expression of the model’s spirit.
- On Day 1, we will use just Raw Umber paint on a white canvas to make a sepia-toned underpainting.
- On Day 2 we will work overtop of our underpaintings in full color.
- On Day 3 we will refine and render the forms of the face, to really make our portraits glow.
Each day, I will spend the morning demonstrating and walking students through my thinking and painting process, and in the afternoons, the attendees will all paint together while I offer group and individual guidance to keep everyone’s paintings on track.
Although portraiture will be our focus, the techniques and principles we cover can be applied to any type of oil painting: landscape, figure, still-life, etc.
I hope to see you there!
